PORCELAIN TILES

RENOVATION SPURRED A NEW DIRECTION. While planning the bathroom renovation of my 1812 home, I decided to make the tiles.  I’d been longing to try something new in my work so I signed up for a course with Adriana Baler at the Corcoran College of Art & Design in Washington, DC, and became smitten with the tile-making process.  My tiles are coated with luscious, handcrafted glazes and then fired in my electric kiln. They are suitable for architectural use in the kitchen, bath, or fireplace surround; a notch on the back also allows them to hang directly on the wall as art pieces.

Each tile starts as a drawing, which is transferred

to plaster and then carved

to create a mold
