          EARTHENWARE

PROCESS  Using earthenware clay on a potter’s wheel and handmade molds, I create unassuming forms that lend themselves to surfaces rich in color and subtle texture.  After an initial bisque firing, the pots are handpainted with underglaze slip, incised for visual interest, then coated with a clear, food-safe glaze before they are fired in my electric kiln.

At each show, I’ll have pieces from my standard line of work, as well as specialty items, like butter dishes, sugar bowls, cake plates, teapots, etc.  If you’re interested in a form with a particular color from my palette, give me a heads up a month or so beforehand and I’ll do my best to include it.

PATTERNS

  1.   ‘Petri’ (the first design . . . biology, japanese country textiles, sea urchin skeletons)

  2.   ‘Megumi’ (named after a japanese friend & college roommate)

  3.   ‘Ottoman’ (inspired by a fantastic exhibit of Ottoman Turk clothing at the Freer Museum)

  4.   ‘Birch’ (the result of a wonderful winter trip to a friend’s wedding in Poland)

  5.   ‘Guppies’ (for my dad, the fisherman)
